The holidays can be stressful. Among the celebrations and jubilee, it can be difficult to  find a moment to recharge – mentally and physically. Our friends at Sakara Life – the organic, plant based meal delivery service – are no strangers to mindfulness. Their debut cookbook "Eat Clean, Play Dirty" shares recipes that are better for our bodies, without compromising on flavor. In honor of the season, we whipped up two restorative – and boozy – elixirs from their book perfect for reenergizing the spirit. Cheers to that!

The Desert Rose

Nature’s wisdom has shown us that a flower can bloom even in the desert, which to us means that we can all flourish under the harshest conditions – like stress or work-life imbalance. Taking a moment to celebrate even the smallest victories (such as making it through the week in one piece!) reenergizes the spirit. And doing so with a spicy, smoky beverage made with restorative foods and compounds? Even better. This drink features Sakara's Beauty Water Concentrate, which delivers seventy-two trace minerals, including silica (one of the minerals that our bodies need most and that supports healthy, glowing hair and skin), in addition to rose water.

The Desert Rose cocktail

  • ⅓ jalapeño, seeded and thinly sliced, plus more for garnish

  • 1½ ounces (45 ml/1 shot) mezcal

  • 2 limes, 1 thinly sliced

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons cold-pressed juice (we like a beet-fruit blend for color)

  • 5 dropperfuls of Sakara Beauty Water Concentrate or rose water

  • Splash of club soda or seltzer

  • Liquid sweetener of choice

In a cocktail shaker or tall glass, muddle the jalapeño. Fill the shaker or glass with ice, then add the mezcal, 1 tablespoon of lime juice, the pressed juice, and Beauty Water Concentrate. Shake well and strain into a glass over fresh ice. Top with a splash of club soda and adjust the sweetness to your liking. Garnish with a couple of slices of lime and jalapeño

Holiday Kombucha Mule

Holiday Kombucha Mule

For holiday sipping, we took a traditional Moscow Mule and gave it a Sakara glow. We swapped out the ginger beer for kombucha, one of our favorite fermented botanicals. Since about two thousand years ago, in Asia, this magic potion has been dubbed the “immortal health elixir” because of its ability to support body-wide health and prevent illnesses. High-quality kombucha is filled with probiotics and amino acids that help your body digest sugars, and also happens to be a natural hangover cure. A match made in cocktail heaven!

Kombucha Mule.

  • ¾ cup (180 ml) ginger kombucha (we used GT’s fall flavor)

  • 2 ounces (60 ml) vodka

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • Splash of pineapple juice

  • 1 teaspoon molasses

  • Pineapple leaf, for garnish

In a tall glass, combine the kombucha, vodka, lime juice, pineapple juice, and molasses and stir. Garnish with the pineapple leaf and enjoy
