Jessica Alba, Actor and Founder of The Honest Company
The Honest Company
Jessica Alba has forever changed the way families shop with The Honest Company. Since founding the business in 2011, this actress turned mogul has grown it into a billion dollar wellness brand, providing households across America with safe and effective consumer products. With her third child on the way – and our baby bedding now available – we were eager to learn which baby items she can’t live without, her tips for working parents, and a mantra for all aspiring entrepreneurs.
How would you describe your home interior?
My home style is global and modern. I have items from tons of different places all over my home, and I try to use as many natural materials as possible.
How do you strike a balance between sophisticated and kid-friendly decor?
Baskets are your best friend. Using beautiful wire baskets or woven bins allows you to store kids stuff in a chic way, leaving the big, bulky plastic bins behind. Using materials that you can easily wash or wipe down is also key.
We recently launched Baby Bedding here at Parachute! What are your recommendations for parents preparing a nursery – and which baby items could you not live without?
The Honest Company’s fragrance-free personal care suite is designed for babies with sensitive skin. I would also recommend a Dyson air humidifier and a noise machine to help your little one sleep soundly. I’m a big fan of naturepedic mattresses for the crib. It’s important to wash all of your little one’s clothing and blankets prior to use. I also think it’s important to look for a cozy rug made from natural materials, that don’t have flame retardants. For my kids’ rooms, I opt for no-VOC paints (vs. low-VOC paints).
The Honest Company products that are a part of your bedtime routine are…
After bathtime, I lather up with our face + body lotion in dreamy lavender. It’s made with naturally derived essential lavender oils and it helps me relax after a long day. Then I love to curl up with a good book and read to unwind before going to bed.
Bedside tables reveal a lot about a person…what’s on yours?
Right now there’s a pregnancy book and mystery novel, as well as The Honest Company’s prenatal once daily vitamins and an air diffuser. You will never catch me without a glass jug of water next to my bed!
What keeps you up at night?
Being a working mom is demanding, and mornings can be extra hectic. Do you have a tip for keeping mornings on track without compromising QT with your girls?
Be present. When you’re at the office, focus on work – and when you’re at home, focus on spending quality time with your family.
You’ve successfully scaled an e-commerce company in a short period of time. Do you have a mantra or one piece of advice you’d share with other entrepreneurs trying to do the same?
Always trust your gut. Never underestimate the power of perseverance. Nothing worth having comes easy!
