Charleston’s most charming bachelor may be a big kid at heart, but his bedroom was in need of a serious reality check. An unorganized closet, too small of a bed and playful accessories (trucks are toys, not decor) left Shep Rose's beloved beach house lacking southern charm. Enter Orlando Soria, interior designer extraordinaire, who helped the Bravo TV star find his style with refined pieces and sophisticated details, while keeping the space bright and airy. Watch the stunning before and after transformation and read on for an interview with Orlando and Shep.

How did you incorporate Southern Charm in Shep’s home makeover?:Shep wanted a room that reflected his laid-back attitude but also celebrated his more traditional roots. The Edged Linen Duvet Cover Set perfectly encapsulated the two styles – casual linen with a preppy stripe on the outer edge. We also brought in some charming furniture pieces from Article and artwork from Minted that look organic yet sophisticated.

Shep is a reality star, you’re about to be one. What was it like working together?:Shep is a big kid at heart and so easy to work with. He pretty much gave me free reign in his room – which is always a treat. I really appreciated his interest in learning more about design and how best to bring his style to life in the room.

What must every bachelor’s bedroom have – and why?:Every bachelor needs a well-made bed. The bed is the focal point in any room and a good night’s sleep is everything.

What was your objective for the makeover – and what solutions did Orlando have up his sleeves?:First and foremost I needed a bigger bed – my feet were always hanging off the end of my old mattress. Orlando brought in The Mattress in California King and I couldn’t be happier! The bed is huge, comfortable and the bedding is out of this world. My new Parachute sheets and pillows are soft – you can feel the quality.

I also needed to find new ways to keep my room – especially my closet – organized. My new California Closets system is a lifesaver. Everything in my wardrobe has a place and it’s so much easier to keep my clothes off the floor. I am also loving my new dressers from Article which house all my overflow clothes.

What’s one thing you learned about your style during this design process?:I now know that I have a style. Before I wasn’t sure how to define it. Orlando helped me recognize that my style is a blend of preppy and traditional with a relaxed vibe. I gravitate towards the California, laid-back look, but with some tailoring.

What’s one of your most important takeaways from this experience? What advice would you share with other individuals in the process of redecorating their bedroom?:My biggest takeaway is to not be afraid to blend two styles. Orlando was able to make my room over to look sophisticated yet casual, which I didn’t think was possible before.

My best advice for others would be to trust the experts. Orlando brought in the best quality products from the dramatic paint color, to the art from Minted, to the bedding and of course my new California Closet I know all the pieces in my room are top shelf.

True or false: Parachute Pillows are better than Craig’s?:True for now…but now Craig has a brass ring to reach for…I foresee good things for all parties!
